About the Summit

The Creative Facilitator Summit is a landmark gathering designed for artists, creators, and educators to explore the vital and evolving role of the creative facilitator. This role, often multifaceted and central to participatory artwork, will be examined through the practice and insights of emerging and established artists.

Agenda

• Day one at ArtPlay: What is Creative Facilitation?

  Speakers, workshops and live demonstrations. We will explore the broad implications of a role that is multi faceted and goes by many names.

• Day two at Arts Centre Melbourne: Building a Creative Facilitator network

  Panel discussions and participant-led roundtables on the practical questions: career pathways, training, safety, and how facilitators and the organisations that hire them find each other.

  Artistic Director of Playable Streets, PhD researcher in creative facilitation, and Summit host.

• Sue Giles AM

  President of ASSITEJ International and former Artistic Director of Polyglot Theatre for over two decades.

• Frank Newman

  Helpmann Award winning theatre director and creative facilitation specialist across arts, health and education.

• Cat Sewell

  Artistic Director and Co-CEO of Polyglot Theatre, with extensive expertise in participatory theatre for children and families.

• Afsaneh Torabi

  Performer and core Polyglot Theatre artist specialising in sensory led, participatory and immersive work.

• Tahli Corin

  Theatre maker, producer and Co-Director of Threshold, with deep experience in participatory work for young audiences.

Objectives

• Visibility and networking

  Building robust networks and increasing the professional visibility of creative facilitators across Australia.

• Knowledge sharing

  Engaging with practitioners from Western Australia, New South Wales and South Australia to explore critical industry questions.

• Research integration

  Incorporating insights from current doctoral research led by Glen Walton, Artistic Director of Playable Streets, regarding the performer facilitator's impact on participation.

Who it's for

Artists who facilitate participation in creativity, whether or not you call yourself a facilitator. Performers, teaching artists, producers, front of house and program staff, museum and gallery educators, students and recent graduates, and anyone hiring people to do this work.

Places for independent artists are subsidised, with bursaries for artists travelling from regional Victoria and interstate. We are still finalising what we will cover in the two days, so register your interest and tell us what you would want to talk about.
